UPDATE: Hello everyone ... glad to see we have more interest in a group buy in Atlanta. I checked with my salesman and he discussed the request with his sales manager. The dealer ownership is awaiting to get more information from MB-USA before responding. We do have 3 months or so before cars go on sale so keep checking. I also plan to reach out to two other local dealers. Perhaps if we can get some competition going among the dealers/sales people we can get the best deal possible. Stay tuned ...

Update #2 (6/20/13) - I actually sent emails to three dealers and one responded. Basically stated the same thing my salesman at RBM North told me. US dealers are awaiting info on the pricing structure from MB-North America. That info will include pricing and incentive schemes and based on that, dealers will figure out their own marketing/pricing campaigns & practices. So I guess we just have to remain patient. Believe me, the dealers I reached out to have my name, phone #, and email address. They will respond back at the appropriate time. But I will also be pro-active. To Be Continued ...

Update #3 (6/22/13) - I heard back from the three MB dealerships. The message is consistent from my own and the other 3 dealerships around the Atlanta Metro area - my query about discounts/incentives on a group buy cannot be answered at this time. MB-North America must provide dealers with pricing and incentive programs it deems necessary before dealerships can create their own marketing/pricing campaigns & practices. A couple of the dealer reps that contacted me believe they will have the info they need from MB-North America by early August, at the latest. So please stay tuned as I get more info.

I count six (6) of us so far with interest in the group buy option (chlgmldnjs10, Charles, alex71711, aihwant, wlpete, me). All four dealer reps were excited to hear of our collective approach and welcomed the opportunity to earn our business. Time will tell ...

Mike0302, welcome to the forum ... and our increasing number of Atlanta-area members interested in a group buy. Please keep checking back to this thread for updates as I get more information from the four dealers I contacted. We are now up to 7 for the group buy.

Greetings ... I hope all are doing well. As of now, we are up to 8 members for the group buy. I was surfing some of the other threads and saw where "steveng" inquired about placing an early order. I sent him a PM and he replied indicating interest in joining our group. Everyone please stay tuned and keep checking this thread as I will post updates as they come along.

UPDATE #4 (6/25/13): Following is the latest related to three key areas of our efforts.

Listing of the Atlanta CLA Group Buy
    mrjad20 (me), chlgmldnjs10, Charles,
    alex71711, aihwang, wlpete,
    steveng, Mike0302, BigHaze.

    Purchase Strategy
I communicated with CLA Forum member moneyB, who was the coordinator of a group buy in So. CA. From his experience, he recommended the following:
    a) Go through the Fleet/Wholesale Manager of the dealer.
    b) Separate the orders by model (CLA 250 vs. CLA 45 AMG ) because the greater the number of the same model the better the savings.
    c) Work with the Fleet Mgr. as a group, which means that everyone who signs up needs to be committed to the buy.
    d) Also work with the Fleet Mgr. individually, which means to set up an appointment to disclose the "specs" you want for the car.
    e) When calling dealers and talking with the Fleet Mgr., determine which one is most engaging and seems interested in earnest in your business. Do NOT negotiate at this point because there can be no serious negotiations until the dealers get pricing and/or the cars arrive. It is best to leave the negotiation to when the cars arrive because it gives the group more leverage in the event the negotiations don't go as planned. The Fleet Mgr. will work at not letting 8-9-10 buyers slip through his/her hands.
    f) The other advantage of waiting until the cars arrive is that we can see from our Forum what other purchasers post about their discounts/incentives and use this information as part of our negotiation.
    g) It we can "time" it properly, it helps the process/negotiations to arrange to pick up the cars together on the same day.

    Dealers Contacted
I have contacted the following dealers in the Atlanta Metro Area (but will follow up to inquire into the Fleet Manager's name)
    RBM (Dunwoody & Alpharetta)
    MB of South Atlanta
    MB of Buckhead
    Atlanta Classic Cars

Will also check out MB of Columbus (GA) and MB of Macon (GA)/Jackson Automotive

It doesn't appear that we'll get much traction on our objective until we get closer to the arrival of cars at dealerships and/or dealerships get pricing information from MB-North America. I will continue to post updates as I get more relevant and meaningful information -- my next post may be several weeks away as a result. So, please stay tuned ...

Thank you MrJad for sharing everything so far. There is one thing I'd like to bring up though. That's everyone's credit background. I've heard Dealers are more willing to provide lower prices for people with good credit. I for one have good credit, but If we as a group all have good credit, then we can definitely ask for a lower price. That could be a potential bargaining topic.

Charles ... you bring up an excellent point - one which, quite frankly, I didn't think about probably due to my "assumption" it would not be an issue. Thanks for raising our awareness and sensitivity. To Charles' point then, my hope is that all nine of us in the buy group have at least "good" credit.

For our reference, following is a quote from credit guru Erica Sandberg of CreditCards.com, in a foxbusiness.com commentary: "FICO scores range from a low of 300 to a high of 850. What is considered poor, fair, good and excellent fluctuates. In general, though, those in the mid-600s to the mid-700s are deemed "good." Higher than that and you're in the "excellent" range."

Once I know that dealers have the info required for them to address our needs, my plan is to initiate our own preparations by coordinating a meeting of all interested parties on our buy group list. Thanks to you, Charles, the matter of credit is now one of the items on the agenda. All buy members stay tuned as we get closer to our version of "D-day".
