How to identify a poorly battery?

    Hi,

I installed a Blackvue dashcam at the weekend. Unfortunately I wasn't able to use the Power Magic Pro since it appears my main battery voltage is already too low at 11.7v. This does seem particularly low to me and I wondered whether its the early indication of a poorly battery. The car starts fine but I do know that modern car batteries can fail quite suddenly when they do reach end of life.

My question is, what is 'normal' voltage for a CLA45 and at what point would you identify a battery as needing to be replaced?

    Andy.

11.7? Wow dead battery walking ...
    Time for a new one
After sitting for a while it should be 12.6 or better (without a charger)

Did you change it yourself? I'm thinking of doing that. Thanks.

    Hi Andy,
I ran into a similar issue. My dealer-installed lighted sill plates accessory option, suddenly stopped working.
The SA said "The computer says you need a new battery, but we suggest letting us charge it for an hour."
That solved the problem for me and everything was fine after the charge.

JMC can check me on this but I believe the CLA senses the low charge and begins to shut down non-critical drainage in order to keep the critical functions fully operational.
As he would say ...it's a priority thingy.

IMO you are better off doing it yourself, with a trickle charger overnight.
Go to www.autozone.com make your selection and save a ton of money.

Please come back here and let us know what happens....you can always return the charger.

You would of course go to HALFORDS, not AUTOZONE, but I don't know their return policy,.

Sorry, I should have said. 11.7v with the engine stopped and ignition off.

That's worth a try. I do have a charger somewhere so I'll dig it out.

It does kind of seem that way though.

    Thanks all.

    @Geo K
    What priority thingie ?!

Yeah the system is fairly diligent since the whole darn pot of noodles relies on a healthy battery ... though considering the door sill LEDs draw minimal current I am surprised that was on the kill list ... guess it starts with noncriticals and goes from there

How do you guys check the voltage?I've never changed the batteries mine is a 2015. Also my start-stop is not working for like 6 months now (the A icon on the cluster is orange always) and some people told me its the auxiliary battery dead. But shouldn't other stuff not be working too if auxiliary batter was dead?
