    Oil Filter and Oil Change

We took delivery of our CLA 5 weeks ago. We are enjoying it very much. I have always changed the oil in our vehicles. I was wondering where is the oil filter and is there an after market filter that will fit? Is it a cartridge type filter or spin on? Thanks.

Simple, if you don't go to the dealer for service at the very least buy every oil filter and associated seals from the dealer and save all receipts.

Guys: when mine arrives on jan 13... And I get her first 1000 miles under her (Jan 14) when do I change the oil and the trans. Fluid? How much will that cost at my dealer. Or, is maintenance included for a year?

Maintenance is NOT included in the CLA purchase price. You can pre-purchase maintenance as part of your deal (1 yr, 2 yr, 3 yr etc.) but that will only pay for the recommended maintenance interval services. The M-B recommended service intervals are every 10K miles (this includes oil and fluids, etc.).

Do you think its worth pre-purchasing the maintenance ?

I never trust car Dealers for service, don't take it personal. I will do it my self, like I have all these years!

So, Derick, have you located the filter as I just glanced under the hood and didn't see it and will you buy your filter from the Mercedes dealer?

I believe it's behind the dipstick facing up.
Any high performance oil filter for synthetic oil from local store would work, every 10K miles depending on the kind of oil.

I was about to say that's exactly where it is. it was in the same spot that my CLK 350 was located. The type of filter is a cone filter that you slip in with O-rings attached in several places. YouTube oil change CLK350 to give you an idea. The oil filters are not available yet but if you go to the dealer find the part number and cross-reference it it might be the same one that the CLK350 the had.

My God! A dipstick? How quaint? I haven't seen one of those on a Bimmer or Porsche for years.
