thats the issue with these modern wire-everything-into-a-signal-box-so-everything-can-be-monitored-and-controlled car systems
not just a basic wire hooked up to a mechanical switch ... so yeah yuck as in $ to some dealer or shop
since your case is specific to the interior light / window not activating, yet the system still sees the door as closed (no ajar lamp) some EE techie will have to trace through the sensing / control system and find that "bug" - if its software then its a quick fix / if its the signal box then a tad more $ cuz they already used labor to trace it to which one
was really hoping wiggling the harness would show something ... busted wires is a quick harness swap and less $
of course i am still hoping this is all just a silly tempest in a tiny tea cup?
    wait .....
-- check all the cabin system fuses?
-- after the car is dormant for say 1hr and you open the driver door do you hear a "buzz" from the engine compartment?

    Update- but good news/bad news!!

Took it to a local Benz shop near me just to see if they had any insight before scheduling w/ dealer. Two minutes later the guy has it working! He opened the door and manually flipped the door lock down with a screwdriver, hit the lock/unlock on the key fob a few times, pulled the handle to release the lock and that was it. He said he did a little research before I came in and found this fix. He said a whole host of things all come together at this lock and that's why he tried this first. No charge.

The bad news, when I got it home last night, it'd stopped working again. I was able to duplicate what he did and got it working again, but it's not working this morning. The upside is he's likely isolated the problem. I'll update after I speak with him today.

Yes. He said he's ordering the lock mechanism and will change it out first, I don't have a price yet, but will update when I do. At this point I'm already ahead because he didn't charge me the $125 diagnostic fee that I was quoted before I went in!

(I failed to mention in my last post that in addition to the lock flip/key fob fix he also lubricated the parts involved in case it was just something that got sticky-again at no charge.)

    could be w-o-r-s-e ?
while the panel is out might as well put some noise damp sheets and tidy up the harnesses (stop future buzzing/rattling sounds)

That sounds like an EXCELLENT idea-thanks for that!

So, off topic, and maybe should be a new thread but I'll ask you anyway because you seem to be in the know! I have the stock rims from this that I don't have a use for so I'd like to get rid of them. (I'll never put them back on the car and they're just taking up space in my garage). Any suggestions?
