    Remote Fob intermittent

Hi. We have a 2017 CLA (UK). Recently, the fob has not been working intermittently. It seems to be when the car has been stood for a number of days.

We press the unlock button (also try the other buttons) and the car does not respond. We’ve put a new battery in the fob. This hasn’t resolved. We also don’t have another fob is cannot try that one.

We then need to unlock the door manually with the blade key - resulting in the alarm going off. Then, the fob seems to work again.

When we put the fob in the ignition to start, the car starts with no problems. Starts first time. No errors etc. Not sluggish as if a drained battery or anything - no visible problems.

It’s been back to merc but as you’d expect, they say “we can’t fault the car”. They did do a software update thinking it might fix it but it hasn’t.

It seems to me that perhaps the receiver is going to sleep or something like that. It’s odd that the doors don’t unlock with the fob but once we get in using the blade key and the alarm goes off, the fob can be used to stop the alarm by pressing the unlock button. Like something has been woken from a deep sleep 🙂

Does anyone know if this is a common fault on the CLA/merc in general, so I can tell the garage what the issue is?

    Thanks in advance.

Consider trying the Me app? As a temporary access fix. Still need to get another fob to weed out existing fob status...

    Thanks.

What would the ME app do? Remote unlock?

If it is a dodgy fob, the car is in warranty so I’d expect MB to replace. It seems more likely something with the vehicle though, given that the fob works fine once the car has been unlocked manually with the key.

Yeah lock / unlock via app

After you unlock with key etc ... how far away can the fob be used to lock?

Mostly just quite close to the car. Mainly driver side more than anywhere else

Either try another fresh battery or another fob ... the range should be >70’ lineofsight
The Tx circuits could be dying
