I know the is250 just came out this summer. What is your opinion on the new redesigned is vs cla?

I know one drawback is the IS only gets 24mpg combined...
The is250 is stunning, i saw the f sport one and its a real head turner. The thing that bother's me too much to even think about getting that car are the nike logo headlights. LOL. When you see it driving by it looks nice like its all integrated into the headlight. However
when it's standing still it bothers me a'lot. They should've integrated the led into the headlight like the CLA and with a different design. The nike logo led's at the front bother me a'lot and that they're seperate from the headlight housing.

The CLA will turn heads and has more WOW factor early on.
The CLA will be a little quicker.
The IS250 will have a better cabin.
The IS250 may handle a bit better and certainly ride better using the C & D IS350 test as a guide.
The IS250 will have better resale after three to four years.

A new is250 is out of my "willing to spend on a car that is basically just 4 wheels and a steel frame" range. But it is a sweet car. Even the new body style is quite nice.
It is still on my "maybe when I retire or don't drive 100 miles a day for work" car and buy one used with low miles.

I'd wait until the CLA is out and take both out for some serious time on the road and go with the one that just feels right.

You are doing my type of commute. A Honda Accord DX discounted to $20k is what I would do. Reliable, comfortable, plenty fast and insanely frugal on fuel.
Drive it three to four years, sell it and get another. Your cost over say 4 years is $10k + Tax. That's $200 + tax a month for car cost. A new car every four. Can't do it any better than that.

A base CLA should do pretty well too but will cost you $300 + tax a month instead of $200.

I looked at the new accords and even drove one. Just eh these days. The camry was a better ride. But I spent lots of time in my car, I want to like it and that goes for outside too. I think the camry is boring.
I'm an AK resident, so not worried about tax, luckily :)

Our thoughts is anything we keep for another 9 years is worth, well, nothing, like my volvo s40. So the idea of spending over 30k on a car doesn't sit well with me. We are keeping the volvo anyway and just getting another set of tires and fixing something that is making the tires wear badly. DH will drive it for his commuter when he can't take one of his bikes. My 27 mpg is better than his 12mpg with the truck. And I'll only be buying a new car if the new car is something I'd pick up the keys to when side by side with my s40 (I really love my s40 and wished volvo still made them and imported them to the us). Most of what I've driven this last month is ok, nice upgrades in 9 years over my car, but I still like my car better, even with the rattles and wear).
I may have an entry level Volvo, but it has spoiled me. Other cars just don't feel as nice.

lol funny...I never noticed that! People said the same thing about the Jimmy Durante nose on newer Audis and that worked out quite well for them. After all, half of the industry (including Lexus) seems to have aped the design in one way or another. Maybe we'll all be driving cars with Predator inspired grills in the future. lol

Hi, guys, I am driving a 06 is250 now. I can tell you that the new is250 is exactly the same as its predecessor in power output and driving characteristics. Nothing changes a bit. Only the outer shell and the interior deco are changed or upgraded to more luxury. However, since the first sight of this new predator facelift, I've been complaining against its ugliness. I really can't imagine I would ever drive such an ugly car. Naturally, the CLA is my choice when I come to replace my 7 years old is250.

Here is a pic of my 06 is250 which I think still looks miles better than the new facelift:

I own a CLA250 now and it's being bought back by Mercedes because it's been problematic. I gave up a lot of features to get the CLA because I absolutely loved the way it looks and feels. However, the fact that it spent 20+ days at the dealer for repairs left me with a whole lot of concerns about my future with this car. Glad Mercedes agreed to buy it back. I am now looking at the 2014 IS 250 and I have to say after driving it, it's gorgeous. It looks great, it felt great and it was very luxurious. Not to mention, since it's December I was offered a great deal. So, I could either get another CLA that is missing a lot of options or get a fully loaded IS250 F Sport for roughly the same price. You know what it really boils down to? After this experience I have doubts about the reliability of the CLA. Lexus will be very reliable for years to come.

The new IS is pretty nice looking from all the angle except the only thing that turn me down(greatly) is the front grill, I felt that even before I found out about the resemble to the predator's mouth...

Sadly I think most owners will share your same sentiments later on. The CLA is so beautiful that everyone overlooks the other stuff. To get what's standard on most other cars your back up close to 40K... I, too love the looks of the CLA but I keep reading these forums and I get a little farther away from buying one... The IS is nice but mpg sucks compared to the CLA and even a 328i, I have a long communte to work and many people on these forums have said the CLA ride is harsh even reviewers so that is another knock against that gorgeous car... oh well will test drive one early next year and go from there.

Enjoy your new IS, despite the alien reference, nice looking ride and will be dependable for sure.

One other side note, this is a first gen car, most who bought this car will have some regrets, MB in the upcoming versions will address a lot of these launch issues. The CLA in 2-3 years will truly be bad ass.

2400 miles on my CLA and not a single problem, except the jerk who backed into me on Day 1. At the same price point, my CLA is much better equipped than my ATS was.
