So is there a resolution to the question of whether a retrofit is possible for CLA 250s with MY15, and COMMAND NTG5.1?

Is there a part that can be purchased, and firmware updates required?

If anyone has this info, can you please provide the relevant part nos.? I would like to have this installed at my dealer, but would need to know the right part nos. for it.

Car play

Should be able to, I had my MY2015 CLA 45 with command retrofitted by Three Point in Victoria.
Cost around $300 CDN. I was the first one at the dealership to have it done, so there was a few issues, but works great, now,and worth every penny. They remove your existing USB hub, and install a modified version, and all the rest is software. Get your dealer to call them if there are any questions.

hi , couple of questions:

1. What is the part no. for the modified USB?

2. Does it come with Android auto?

3. Is the cost of CAD300 include labour and parts?

Carplay install

1. PN=1 246 -820-38-00 Car play install kit.(consists of USB head and two cables, one lighting cable, and one Android cable I think....I'm a apple guy, so I'm assuming thats what its for??
2. I have no idea if it does CarPlay and Android auto? But I thought there are people on this forum using the Android auto?
3.Just pulled up my bill, it was $291.05 CDN in total. Parts=154.05 Labour=137.00 Seemed like a deal considering it is Mercedes we are talking about!
Good luck!

Thanks buddy.

You said you had some initial issues with the install. Care to describe?

I am trying to get my Richmond dealer to do the same for me.

Car play install

No problems with Car play itself, I just happened to be the first person that wanted this retrofit installed in Victoria, so it was a learning experience for the techs to get the proper software installed, it involved contacting Germany for proper software/installation codes etc. CarPlay is far more intuitive than the original command system, particularly dictating tex messages and read back of incoming text messages.

I just contacted my Richmond Mercedes service and they confirmed that they can do the same, for the same cost that you quoted. But like you, they said this will be a first time for them and hence will be a learning experience for the install.

I will let them know that they will probably need to get the proper software installed by contacting Mercedes Germany tech folks.

I have booked the installation to be done the same time as my B service appt that was scheduled previously.

They said they will also install the Android auto software as an option, which will add another $80.00 of labour. The std installation only covers the apple CarPlay software.

I think its a std price, as indicated on the Mercedes.ca website. With brake fluid change + cabin filter change , it was $650 + tax.

Okay, got my CLA back today, after having been in the MB service shop for overnight. They completed the Service B work, and successfully installed and integrated the apple CarPlay and Android Auto into the command system.

First off, I activated the Android auto, I have to say it works fine, except that I still need to figure out how to use Android auto. It looks really cool , especially when a text message comes in.

So there it is, the MB retrofit kit works.

Now to go get myself an iPhone.

Crux capmb-51

I'm just looking the new CAPMB-51 by CRUX Interfacing. It’s a tool that allows you to recodes NTG 5.1 by yourself in 30 seconds using the ODB port. It will enables CarPlay, Mirrorlink and Android Auto in one shot. It's on sale at $ 299 on some stores.

CarPlay and Android Auto require the A2468203800 USB panel in order to work with the mobile phone.

For Audio20 systems built before December 2015, it's required a firmware update by car dealership.

Some of you have already purchased and used?
Thanks!

I got my CarPlay installed at dealer , for only $250.00, labour and parts.
Why go aftermarket when OEM costs less?

Reading this service page, it seems that Audio 20 have no chance with CarPlay.

I think the only way to have CarPlay is to replace NTG Audio 20 with a Comand one...isn't it?
Yes, you are correct. I didn't realize your car didn't have Navi. On the Command system.

You will need to have the COMMAND NTG5 system software in order to integrate the CarPlay.

But if you do, it only cost $250 to install retrofit kit , from MB dealer.

Nice.

I have just asked about this retrofit with the dealer and they will be getting the software/parts for installation next week around Tuesday. They said once they have it, they can install and integrate it in an hour or two. I'm looking forward to this retrofit done and using Android Auto.

Will update next week about how it goes.

Capmb-51

Hi,

A bit offtopic but just to warn you, I've just received a CAPMB-51 HW 1.0 SW 1.0 and used it in an W176 with Audio 20 (manufacture date 05/2016, EU firmware) and it did nothing, the headunit entered DIAG mode and the process was apparently successful, but no Carplay, Andorid Auto or Mirrolink where activated. I asked twice to Crux whether it would work on an EU unit, and asked them after using it if there's anything that could be done but I got no response so far.

Just be warned!
