Well I just purchased my CLA in October and didn't like that it's hard to see backing up without the camera, so I ordered an aftermarket one from MERCEDES-BENZ CLA OEM Backup Camera System They are great with communication and trouble shooting the system and I highly recommend them. On a scale of 1-10 on install I rate it at a 4 for difficulty, you just have to have basic knowledge of wiring :) at only $544 it's a great alternative then spending a ton of money for someone else to install...which could cost upward to over $1000 easily. Here is a quick process on my install. I didn't take a ton of photos which I should have lol but if you need help I got your back ;)

Don't be nervous of all this wiring! lol

Step 1:
Pop the rubber sleeves back and unscrew 2 screws holding the screen in place. the screen will slide up off the mount. behind the monitor there are 2 plugs a blue plug for video and the black for the power, just unplug them both(no photo)

Step 2:
Is a pain in the butt! pulling out this air vent
20141229_204513.jpg
you'll find a little hole in the bottom inside where you'll need a tool to yank the vent out, I improvised and took a small screwdriver and bent the tip with vice grips to make a J hook.

20141229_204537.jpg
pull hard and firm! it'll come out promise!
once it's out there is one screw on the right side of the vent you'll have to remove to get the panel off
IMG_20141229_214236.jpg
Now you can remove the panel to reveal the 2 screws holding the head unit in place, just unscrew them about half way and the locking mechanisim will release the unit and you can pull it back easily
Step 3:
the instructions that came with the kit is somewhat easy to read.

the wires that go to the CANBUS is shown in the instructions as well (brown to brown, red to brown/red)

Continued...
I believe the CANBUS you tap into is what makes the lines move when you turn the steering wheel.
You'll also need to connect the wiring between the head unit, factory wiring harness, and interface unit via provided t-harness
20141230_121534.jpg

on the instructions when installing the wiring to the screen don't worry about the wire that says touch screen since we don't have that haha
20141229_215630.jpg

for the plug for the back of the monitor you'll have to shave off the plastic tabs for the white plug to fit behind the screen
10904216_10205581861525479_36122255_n.jpg

Step 4:
For the interface unit the best spot i found for it is I wedged it between the foam and under the fuse box in the passenger floorboard.
the foam under the carpet has a perfect notch for it to sit on. PHOTO IS UPSIDE DOWN (-.-)
20141229_204709.jpg

For the power and ground wire I used the fuse for the cigarette lighter and grounded the black wire to one of the ground bolts (no picture but easy to find)
there's also a ground wire for the camera which i used the same bolt.
IMG_20141229_205321.jpg

step 5:
now run the rca cable for the camera to the trunk I used the side panel and wedged the cable between the carpet and plastic panel

step 6:
camera install
remove these tabs
IMG_20141229_205034.jpg
there are a ton of them!
To take off the trunk carpet, remove the trunk light and emergency trunk release plugs as well.
IMG_20141229_205110.jpg
pop off the plastic straps that hold the plastic covering over the trunk arms so that the carpeting comes off easily. behind the handle on the inside of the trunk there are 2 nuts that need to be removed to remove the handle. Unplug the wire to the handle first.
(photo for the 2 nuts but on the inside of the trunk)
IMG_20141229_210329.jpg
step 7:
on the exterior of the trunk remove the 2 screws, there are about 3 plastic clips holding the panel in place you'll have to pop off as well.
IMG_20141229_210144.jpg

step 8:
once you have the handle out, the kit provides a drill bit for the correct size hole your about to make in the handle
20141229_144008.jpg
the camera has double sided sticky tape for it to sit on and just screw the backing of the camera snug (no photo)

step 9:
Run the cable down the passenger side trunk arm and zip tie it down. you'll notice a green and white wire protruding from the wiring, snip the green wire to get rid of the green/yellow/red guide line that come with the camera itself (You don't need that because the CANBUS you tapped into provides the amber guide lines that move) or it'll end up with both guide lines on the screen
IMG_20141229_205933.jpg
photo of guide lines without the green wire snipped
10850230_10205485807884198_8121440684446878869_n.jpg
at the end of the camera wire attach the red wire to the other red wire for power to the camera. the rca cable that you ran has the other red power wire attached so you'll just put them together.
20141229_223824.jpg
the black wire you ground behind the taillight and put it to a bolt that's grounded to the chassis
20141229_223757.jpg

step 10:
test it out
Make sure that the DIP switch that is on the interface unit is correct. for the 5.6" screen you'll need to make sure that the #5 and #7 switches are on the ON position
10881232_10205581861125469_268058355_n.jpg

When everything checks out ok just put everything back together and make adjustments for the guide lines with the remote control provided :)

I'm thinking seriously about this, but I'd have the local car stereo store do it, who are excellent at installations and very honest.
Really dumb question here: Nothing in the Command unit is affected by this other than the addition of the backup camera? Thanks again.

Nope, nothing is affected, the radio will still play like normal, even when in reverse the music still on. The interface just takes over the screen in reverse :) If you can get them to install it I say do it! You wont regret it :)

He estimated $285. They are very honest. They only will charge me for as long as it takes. I'll check back in when the deed is done for sure.

Man. I wish I knew someone in the VA/DC/MD area who could install this for me. I'm scared to mess around with wiring :(

I'm not doing it myself. The local, excellent car stereo store is doing it for me. I'm sure you could fine someone to do it.

I believe these are different units. Look at the photos of the two units on the different sites. Not the same. Backup photos on the sites look very different as well.
MERCEDES-BENZ CLA OEM Backup Camera System
Mercedes Benz New CLA W117 with NTG4 5 AUDIO20 Camera Module with Handle Camera | eBay

Compare for yourself. Plus, the one on Ebay comes from Taiwan. No returns, it says. It would make me nervous going with the Ebay unit. I'm fine with what I ordered.
ya eBay has a great policy on stuff like this, if it doesn't work they you will def get your money back though a PayPal dispute.
