well it's that time again ...
found the 2 options that have 4 year replacement (compared to the 2 year benz parts warranty)
these don't break the bank ... pick up at wally's or ship from rocky's
since the oem (varta/bosch) has not been that good to me, maybe i will try a wally special :p

the wally special just arrived $185 delivered and taxed (they even removed the core charge)
though just found out they have 2 variants (upc 681131099745 vs 190327541048)
both h7's though one is 850cca and the other is 800cca
the 850 is the same as many others under different brands (ac duralast motorcraft)
the 800 is a different variant (different handle insets etc)
asked wally team about it ... let's see what they say (cuz i paid for the 850cca unit)

yup … just horrible juju with batteries despite the cteks
the state of charge is good until the cliff one day without warning
2yr 2yr 4.5yr … so maybe the 5th battery will last 6.5yr
so sort of a fibonacci progression for me

So either a BCI group H7 or 94R will fit the 2014/2015 CLA?

Hi Mav,
Be careful here - found out that during MY2014 they installed two different main batteries in production. Some were H6, others H7. The H7 is 1 inch longer. If yours was H7 you can use either but if H6 the H7 won't fit into the bracket.

I was pretty lucky my original battery lasted 8 years, it's sleeps outside (no garage) and we have brutally cold winters. You never can tell.

Thanks, for the headsup. Appreciate the thoughtful advice.

@Northern Al
you are correct … so my original post included the h7 variant
think all mfa1 chassis accepted the h7 by default with the smaller h6 an option (which is listed in some sites but the absolute capacity is a tad less)

saw some lifepo4 offerings for h7 … 16lb … too bad they are like $600

The battery I found this past January at Advance Auto Parts, is this one:

I paid $209.00 for it back then, and they loaned me some tools to swap it out in their parking lot. It wasn't difficult to swap out other than -12 F. temp. Like everything else the price has jumped up (about 10%) since.

Both Sam's Club & Costco offer similar models and some Sam's clubs will install it for you.

Here's some earlier posts on the subject with additional info:
