Hi All

I hope everyone is well and it would be great if one of you could help me..

Earlier, I managed to somehow get my keys and phone jammed under the sliding drawer of the centre console. I got home and couldn't open my center console. I drove straight to the dealership to seek help and they were startled to see such a case. On their attempt to open the console lid, one of the blocks popped out, as in the image.

I was then told to replace it with genuine mercedes parts that would cost me around £300. Do you have any suggestions on what I should do here? I think I can buy the center lid by myself and have a mechanic replace it (it could cost me much less).

Thank you

Welcome to the CLA Forum azzyMe:)
Thoughts to consider:
a) Dealer broke it and should fi it - they have insurance.
b) Could be covered under your OEM warranty?
c) What is the real cost difference between DIY and the dealer?
d) Likelihood of satisfaction with a DIY repair?

A. Unfortunately they got my permission to go ahead. There was no other way to retrieve the key and my phone sadly. But i was more optimistic than what ended up happening.

B. I will take a look at that.

C. DIY involves more likelihood of causing issues to the center console. Tbf, I am not confident to attempt this on a new car either. So it will be have to be done at the dealership.

D. I am not quite sure on that. But certainly not looking to do it myself to avoid causing any further damages.

Thank you.

Just missed your last post do ignore my last link
Actually this could work. That's exactly what I need. The merc dealership told me that they would have to replace the whole center console including back compartment. An independent mechanic told me he could fit this part without the rest if i could get hold of one. So assuming he's right and merc just looking to deceive me and charge extra, then I think i should just get it done with the independent mechanic. Total cost would be a 1/3 of what merc quoted.

Should I go ahead this way?
Appreciate your help.

I say go ahead with the independent mechanic. No reason to replace the entire center console from the dashboard to the rear seat.

Although you'd think that since the dealership broke your car... they'd fix it. Or atleast offer a heavy discount on the job.

Agree. After more researching this seems the best idea. I am hoping to go and speak with them tomorrow.

Yeah, it kinda seem morally wrong to blame them as they warned me but i didn't really expect it to break as such. But I atleast hoped they would give me a discount, but clearly they don't care. Merc nowadays is getting more and more about squeezing more money out of their consumer as possible.
