IF offered stateside, I think I'd rock the CLA TDI! A colleague of mine has an Audi A3 2.0TDI S-Line. It's a rather refined & robust vehicle, admittedly. Nice oomph to it paired w/ nice handling, in a taut & trim package. AND the oil'burner isn't noticeably obstrusive in terms of motoring experience (sounds, feel, etc).
A key & salient point I like about diesels in sporty & well handling cars is that they don't have to be driven timidly & passively to achieve appreciable fuel ecomony as the case w/ petrol hybrids. Flog the diesel, get decent performance, and still achieve high MPGs!
I really wish diesels didn't have the stigma they have in the states of being noisy and dirty. That was 10 years ago, but not anymore. Manufacturers should bring more here to the states, in almost every other part of the world they are much more common.
