Coolant Expansion Tank Cap won't turn

Hi,

I tried to open my 14 CLA250 coolant expansion tank cap, but it only turns about 1/4 turns, and stuck from there and on. (Engine was cold)
The cap is loose at that point, I can wiggle it, but won't turn any more.
I tried to push it down while I am turning, no luck.

So, I tried my ML to compare, and it turns without even pushing it down ...

Any thought?

Should just turn like any bottle cap
Try a little more torque?

I tried again, but the result is the same. I can open it a bit (up to that point is is freely rotatable), then seems like it is hitting some sort of locking system, and not turning any further.
I may need to bring it to my dealer to see if they can open it up for me.

Oh ... thats the free play in the cap lock system
Might just be a sticky seal ... it will feel like a hard mechanical stop (like mine was the first time I tried to open)
Give it a little more twist force?
But then again maybe let the dealer service guy do it ... worse case is a duh! moment

Hello, i have the same problem.
2014 CLA250. The cap turns about 1/4 and then it hits a stop. I tried pinching the cap with the flat screw driver, but no luck. Have no idea how to open it. Help will be greatly appreciated.

no matter how hard you grip and turn???
nope, here is the picture of how it hits the stop. it just won't turn counter-clockwise once it hits this stopper. I tried pushing and turning, pulling and turning, pinching with a flat screw driver. Nothing works. My friend told me that possibly someone in the past overtightened it and now the only way to take it off is to cut it out.

Hmmm ... thats a new one
Well maybe trim off one of the tabs that is stopping the rotation
Not much to lose at this point
Consider replacing that tank ... not too expensive
