...honestly speaking for myself, i was interested in Subarus latest BRZ and what changed my mind was all of a sudden the Dealers were asking 2000 to 5000 more...
so then came along CLA and this wonderful forum...
...but back to my topic...
Do you guys/gals think that Mercedes will gauge us and do a mark up?
....i hope they dont as it could be a Big turnoff to many folks...
but then again, those with the $$$$$'s probably dont care... just as long as they get their CLA;) Land vehicle Vehicle Car Sports car Automotive design

by the way, the BRZ and CLA are about the same price, but only difference is its fully loaded at around 31k

Sometimes there is markup when a new model is released. It depends on the capacity of their production and how scarce the car becomes on the dealer lots. It also depends on the dealerships. Usually the markup isn't coming directly from Mercedes HQ. Rather, the markup is from the dealership. Usually it can be avoided by finding a more ethical dealership or just waiting a few months until production capacity floods the market with more cars. Markups never last very long.

I closely followed the release of BMW's redesigned 328i last year and there was no mark-up for that car. So mark-up doesn't happen all the time. American dealerships like to do markups more than European brands. Like for instance, when a new Corvette or Mustang is released.

A 5% discount negotiated off MSRP would make me happy, and a 10% discount negotiated off MSRP would make me giddy!!! :D

I know, wishful thinking if I want to get one early fall (September-October). And I want one then, grrr! :p

Wisheful thinking indeed !! I think with the CLA getting this much deserved attention and will be selling like hot cakes ....... I doubt we'll see any decent pricing for quite awhile perhaps 6 months ??

Well the good thing is this isn't an 'exclusive' type car. The only thing creating a shortage is the ability to build them fast enough, its not a limited edition. I think MB is making this thing to make a ton of units and sell them -- so I think supply won't be the limiting factor except in the very beginning.

I'll be very surprised if people aren't getting $2k or more off MSRP within 3 months of them hitting dealerships.

That much off MSRP would be nice !! Can opt for the Panorma Sunroof or actually get the Multimedia ( Nav ) then .... after 3 months of course :)

Hell could be sooner. Just have to find the right dealer. Not necessarily a local one, just a dealer willing to work with you on price. They are out there. I once bought 3 different vehicles (over a 3 year period) from a dealer in Nebraska (I was located in NM) sight unseen. They would ship them to me and it was still cheaper then I could find them anywhere else.

I think this is the right gameplan. Most folks ... I included would go to their nearest and convenient dealer without thinking of going out of state who would be more opt to work with you on pricing and even get your car to you !!! Great suggestion !

I'll probably wait a few months, maybe until 2014. My dad bought his C class down in Los Angeles at Keyes European (I did the dealing), our salesguy said come back when i need a car, lol :). Actually, i will probably send him an email today :).

Tell him this is your 2nd vehicle so you should get an even deeper 'repeat customer' discount.

I'll make sure to do that :). He was trying to get me into a C coupe, but then the CLA popped up and its much more my speed, lol :). I think the best time is always around the end of the month when dealers are trying to meet quotas.
I think your right. They always do that 'if you buy today' crap when its near the end of the month :)

hi you are absolutely right, a friend/car salesperson told me the best time to buy a car is at the end or last day of the month...they have contests between themselves and company incentives to achieve high volume sales... so yes,,, get your car the last day of the month for best price.

I just spoke to my local mercedes dealer today to see if they were taking orders and he said they were but orders were limited avalibility for the first run to get an order in quick. I told him I wanted to stay as close to the 29900 as possible so with the premium package he said id be at around 31 to 32000 no mark ups. I just paid off my 2007 mustang gt but dont want to jump into another payment right away lol. I might just wait till after there out in september than pull the trigger later. Thing is I just started a new job and only am working part time at the moment and told the dealer I dont want to pay a month what i was paying on my mustang which was 513 a month Iwould never pay that much again. How much money down will I need to be in like the 250 300 a month range.

Angelo,

If you are willing to wait a couple months after release I think you'd be better off. You'll get a couple grand off MSRP that way. As far as payment per month goes, what type of interest rate are you going to be able to get. A lot of it depends on your credit rating. Here's a cool finance calculator...

Using this calculator here is what it would work out to be

Car price: $32,000
Down Payment: $2,000
Term: 60 Months
Interest Rate: 2.7%

Monthly Payment: 535.07

That is also not figuring in TTL, etc.
