Hey all CLA crew:

First post, new here. I love the CLA, already have what I want on paper thanks to all the great info on this forum. Sorry if I am a bit long winded on this post.

My current ride is a 2011 Infiniti G37 sedan, great power, great sound, bad MPG. Lease is up this April. I'm getting some great numbers on a 2013 G coupe (lease) even though the model has been around the ball park and back again; visually, but i may hold off for the CLA and extend my lease with infiniti.

Previously I leased a 2009 Audi A5 2.0T Loved the car in terms of looks but it was a slug and too slow, had no exhaust note whatsoever bad turbo lag, to point where merging on the freeway was a bit scary sometimes, so I am a little standoffish as to how the CLA will perform? Don't want another Audi episode.

if I can wait till Sept. Oct I am going to go with: 4matic, White, AMG package, P1, P2, Pano, HID, probably will be over 40K:confused: Does anyone else feel 40k will be to HIGH. Without the AMG package it looks too ehh IMO. or I can just lease another Infiniti but go with the coupe. I dont know, decisions:confused:

Thanks Bobby

Hey Bobby and Welcome to our little group here....
im sure you will get lots of responses in the next few days...
as for my self, i would think the AMG would have all the Goodies and Whistle Bells whereas you wouldnt have to add all the options from a Standard CLA, whereas the AMG would have it all!!....and maybe a hair over 40K with 4Matic...
im just driving a simple 07 pewter grey/silver C class....and will probably trade it in for a Standard CLA and a Tri Star Hood Ornament... lol.... for me a Benz isnt a Benz without that Star starring at me in the face when im driving down the roads... lol ;)
Welcome to the forum Bobby, I'm also waiting to learn more about the AMG version. Hopefully we'll know more about it soon.
Bobby, the engine for the CLA has the same horsepower and torque numbers as the Audi 2.0T engine, so if you're looking for something noticeably quicker, you could be disappointed. Now the CLA will have a double clutch transmission which isn't offered in the A5, so maybe that will help a little bit.

The fastest German 4 clyinder turbo that I know of is the one in the BMW 328i. If you want anything faster, then you'll need to look at a 6 cylinder.
Hey BobbyJoy, welcome to the site. I am in a similar boat as you in that I have to have a good bit of performance in every car I own. I can't stand driving around something that can't get out of its own way... regardless of the MPG it gets. It still has to have some pep.

If you are not quite sure how much the car is going to run once you get it specc'ed out then download this PDF. You can build it the way you want it and figure out how much each option group is going cost you.

The link to the ordering guide is below:

As Chrisiden mentioned the CLA will have a much better transmission and the torque curve is probably going to be better... so you'll want to test drive it before but I think you will be happier with the CLA then the Audi.

I believe the A5 is noticeably heavier than the CLA, in terms of curbside weight. The Audi likely to be at least ~350 lbs more than the petit Benz.

The boosted 2.0L (based on the given torque figure given) should be more than adequate for the ~3,250 lbs CLA, given the 7-spd dual-clutch transmission.

Yea I agree, plus i am so use to my stock infinti exhaust growl, when I drove the Audi A5 the exhaust note was very puttery and too quiet for my liking. I guess I have to wait and drive one, it would be a huge buzz kill
to order one and be disappointed.

Turbos usually quiet down the exhaust quite a bit. :) But you don't get BOV's or Turbo Flutter in naturally aspirated vehicles either so it evens out :)

That's when you get an X Pipe for your ride !! I had one installed on my C a few years ago and it made a nice difference !!

I had an X-Pipe on my stang back in the day. I think the biggest thing is now we have to deal with 4 or 5 different catalytic converters on each car... that hurts the sound for sure.

Dude you sound like the exact situation I am in. My G37 coupe lease is due next month. I am not sure what I am going to do from now until the CLA is out. What are you doing? I think I might extend my lease.

Got any friends you can "rent" a car from for a couple of months? Or family?

I wonder why Nissan owners seem to like the CLA so much... quite a few Nissan and Audi guys here.
Interesting that there's quite a few who seemingly have to make a move on a new ride this spring/summer, but now will likely postpone such till fall due to the forthcoming CLA. Yours truly, included. I may have to grab a short-term people-hauler soon, then "move" it once the CLA arrives.

I noted such too! I'm thinking the Infiniti G35/37 coupe & Audi A5/S5 offered reasonable alternatives to the seemingly default BMW 3-series in that market segment. And these discerning buyers have obviously taken notice of the rather special CLA as being another merited alternative!

Lexus would've done well, very well had they offered an IS coupe (instead just an IS convertible, priced at a notable premium).
I would say so far that it looks like Mercedes-Benz has a car on its hands that will be good at conquesting. Ie, taking buyers from other brands. Thats perfect for them.
