Without removing the bumper first, i don t think it is possible.
that piece seems to snap into place at multiple latch point
i was thinking take off the star then contort to find and pop those latch tabs

I try that and let’s you know what happens
nope front bumper off job ,couple of bolts by each head light, the a few push screws in wheel arch liner then about 8 screws underneath holding belly plate onto bumper ,then give it a pull, all can be done in about hour and half, there are several videos on YouTube you may want to watch first
the 117 and 118 front covers may indeed come off in similar manner
though many may attest to screwey sensor responses afterwards
I do recall examining the attachment push to click tabs for that front wing trim … cuz i wanted to remove it for coloring and wiring w/o touching the cover
unless i plan to refit a tougher fmic and the cover comes off anyway 🙂

alternative is to do the benz shop manual version - use the pull hooks to yank the entire grille piece out then its open access

then i surmised where to push from the back ... though not sure if my poor old fingers are tough
enough for the exercise

so the backup plan was to remove the entire grille and go from there ... using those fancy benz trim hooks per the service manual ... though might have to duct tape the hell out
of the exit vector so the paint is protected

If the bumper is removed any wires can be unclipped from around the bumper that lead to front radar and air temp probe
