Hey guys, I currently have a BMW 335i and it also has the exhaust flap in it.

The reviews and AMG have also talked about their modulated flap. These are ok.

In the 335 a lot of people mod them so they always stay open. Its really easy to do and just gives a really nice sound to the exhaust at all times. Not just when booting it.

Anyone know if we can do to 45AMG?

i had the 335 as well and i pulled the peice in the trunk out to keep it open as well. i dont think that the AMG will have this. it might! get the sport exhaust for 450.00 and dont even worry about the whole flap thing

According to the CLA45 Order Guide, the "flap thing" is featured on both the standard exhaust as well as the AMG Performance Exhaust. Rather than call it a "flap thing" their marketing department describes it as an "electronically controlled (load dependent) variable vane for exhaust note modulation." Personally, I prefer "flap thing."

It keeps the car quiet when you're not really "on" the gas and allows the exhaust to make more noise when you're driving the car harder. Personally, I'd be happy without it. If I wanted a car without an exhaust note I'd buy a Prius.

Quick questions
1. Approximately where is it it located?
2. Can it be removed or adjusted so the flap is open 24/7?

I saw the vid and read your posts, but I can't deduce if it the mod is actually possible on the CLA

I thought the AMG performance exhaust comes standard in Canada?? Sorry but what does that flap thingy do lol?
The AMG exhaust used to be a $450 stand alone option in 2014. Now it's grouped in with a $5000 option package for 2015.

i love the sound the 45 makes between shifts in sport/manual mode i just wish it was a little louder. I feel like i have to give it way too much gas to get that angry sound out of the car. Driving around at reasonable speeds and not letting the revs get high leaves the exhaust note too subtle for me. For now i'm staying stock but in the future i'm def looking at the downpipe/mid pipe combo to try and get some more sound out of the car during regular driving.

Side note: my car does have the performance exhaust option.

so does anyone have further info on keeping flap open at all times?
I did an exhaust flap mod on an SLK 55 AMG , so if it works the same way then the flaps will fully open when the car key is moved to position 1. Once that's done, it was simply a case of disconnecting the plug from the flap controller, which was under the right side of the SLK. The SLK didn't throw a check engine error, but that's not to say the CLA won't.

These flap mods can be a mixed bag though - the SLK mod robbed power at the top end and introduced drone.

Hi, I have a 2015 GLA45, I wonder how do you tell whether the Valve is opened or not? Also if you didn't get the extra connector, the sensor on the exhaust remain unplug will it show error? So did you just use zip lock bag to seal for both the valve and the cable?

Thank you,
