Hi everyone,
I've been enjoying the CLA forums for a while now but this is my first time posting. It's been great to see the community active and learn from other CLA owners/enthusiasts, and I've loved everything about my 2022 CLA 35 AMG since I got it 1.5 years ago!
I recently had an experience I thought worth sharing with you all.
I was at the gas station a couple weeks ago and was about to fill up when I pressed on the fuel door the usual way and noticed that it wouldn't open. At first I thought the car had somehow locked so I pressed the unlock button on the key and tried it again but still, no luck. I was confused and unsure of what to do so I pulled over to one of the parking spots and got on this forum to see if anyone had posted about this issue.
After searching for a while, I didn't find anything specifically about the W118 model (2020+) so I tried some of the suggestions posted online about other MB models. I carefully pulled back the trunk liner to see if I could activate the manual release on the actuator for the fuel door that controls the locking mechanism. Unfortunately, there didn't seem to be any way to access the actuator from inside the trunk, so finally I called the MB Service department to make an appointment. They were fully booked for the next 5 weeks and instead suggested that I drop off my car and leave it with them for the next 4-5 days so that they could try to fit me in.
When I picked up my car 5 days later, I asked the technician if they could show me how to manually release the fuel door. They said that there is no easy way to do it on this model due to the way it had been engineered. I was lucky to have had a 1/4 tank of gas left when it happened- enough to get home and to the service department the next day. Otherwise, I would've probably had to call Roadside Assistance.
Since I haven't seen any other posts about this issue on this model, this might not be a very common issue. Just wanted to post it just in case it might help out another owner. I'll add some pictures of my CLA to share as well:
