I was bummed to hear the screen is *not* a touchscreen. Figured I'd pass the info along.

Anyone else bummed by this?

Does MB even have a touchscreen in any of their models?

As long as the screen glare-resistant & not buggy/boggy, I'm cool. I guess I'll be more bummed if I somehow-someway can't get my iPhone to "mirror" onto the screen (the homescreen of the i-device displays on the LCD).

I've never owned a MB before, so Im not sure if other models are. Its just the way they have it mounted would lead one to believe its touch screen (in my opinion). Maybe its because it looks like a portable GPS unit and thats why I had assumed it was touch screen. Thats cool if it will mirror an iDevices home screen, I had never heard of that.
If it isn't touch screen, what would be the point of mirroring the iPhone screen anyway? Also, one benefit of it not being a touch screen is that you don't need to worry about fingerprints that need to be wiped off all the time. My FR-S has a touch screen and it bugs me that it always looks dirty.

So you don't have to stare at a small phone-screen. Perhaps the best application of mirroring one's smart-phone onto a large(r) LCD is ability to view a map (namely sat-nav). Reading SMS/MMS, email, docs, and the like. Viewing visual voice-mail, etc. And an occasional game of Angry Birds... :D

I see what you mean, but what I was getting at is that it didn't necessarily have to be a mirror of the iPhone screen as long as it translates the data from phone to screen. If MB has their own way of displaying my music collection designed for a non touch screen it would still work with my phone. For the nav I agree with you though, especially if they're asking too much for the built in navigation.
There will be an option called "Drive Kit Plus" for the iPhone 4-5 platforms, but no price yet for the CLA. The Kit has been around for other models in past 2-3 years. Check out the Thread here called "Multimedia Package" and scroll down toward the 3-4 from bottom post, page 1, from me for the details of the Kit.

Too funny, as I too can relate! Common sense sez Honda/Acura (they really have a great line'up at the moment), but mojo sez Fatherland, ja! :D
Wasn't there some manufacturer recently that said they won't do a touch screen because they feel it's too dangerous to drive and touch at the same time? I thought at read that somewhere. They sort of have a point.

I heard that as well...

Makes sense, but cell phones should be banned while driving nationwide before touchscreens not being put to use.

It's a knob that navigates everything for you. But why not just get the voice recognition and go from there ijs.
A manufacturer easily can have a default setting programmed into a touchscreen LCD that if/when the vehicle is in a non-parked state (namely moving), the ability to change settings and/or toggle controls isn't possible (or limited) is safety is the ultimate concern.

Such is the case w/ my Pioneer AVIC F500-BT, which is more-or-less what we're discussing: a touch-screen LCD w/ A/V inputs & outputs, sat-nav, Bluetooth voice-controls, MP3/MP4 media play, etc.
I rented a Ford Escape recently and it had a touch screen. I really didn't use the "touch" feature too much. I'd rather just scroll with one hand on some knob. Touching while driving does distract me a little bit because it involves some hand-eye coordination.

Thats highly debatable...
