For the luxury, looks and performance that's very good pricing. I've said it once and I'll say it again. Mercedes hit a home run with the CLA!
Copied to the Mercedes CLA Canada CLA forum.
Thanks for posting!

So: all I see that is offered (on top of the far better looking body) for your extra $4000 over the B 250 is power seats and ambient lighting? Plus a sports suspension that makes a hard ride worse? A little thin IMO.

Don't forget to add our higher taxes and higher import duties and that'll make up the difference.
Those higher taxes etc also apply to the Canadian B 250.....which is priced at $29,900.

So again, what's worth $4000?

Greed?

Both B and CLA are built on the same platform using the same engine, transmission, options, interior etc. If we didn't have the B, then it would be the same price as the US, but because we have the B, Mercedes can't bring the CLA here and offer it at the same price. It would take sales away from the B, so they have slotted the price between the B and C.

To further the conversation, stateside a B250 would presumably be $25.9k?

Is the MB B-Class analogous to the Audi A3? (in terms of size, equipment, performance/handling, market-segment)?

No, it was a 4 door hatch(ish) (so I guess 5 door) mini minivan(ish). It was tall like a minivan and had lots of space. It really didn't fit a segment and I think that Mercedes wanted to change that. It now looks like a smaller R-Class in shape. It's a lot lower and sleeker, more of a touring car than a minivan looking car. Does that help? Here's the latest pdf to help you.

Thanks for the info & links. Makes a whole lot more sense now w/ regards to other members' comments on the forum (comparo's w/ A-Class, B-Class, etc).

Cool to see that the CLA will have its own unique headlights/taillights/etc.

Now I know what "honeycomb" trim means (standard trim on the B-Class). I wonder if that's the same as the CLA's standard "anthracite" trim? They appear to differ, at least in pics...
Here is the back end of our B 200, for another view. The B 250 looks similar, more or less.

I see, I see...

The current/outgoing A Class seems to be more Honda Fit than Audi A3 Sportback & BMW 1-Series 5dr-hatchback, in terms of form-factor. And the forthcoming '13+ model-year A Class will be more of the A3/1-series competitor. And the CLA - A Class commonality & design/style elements are there for sure!

The B Class is a shared platform to the A Class (and CLA), but totally different form-factor. I totally now get it... :D
Here is a new B 250, which my daughter got as a loaner car today while the B 200 was in for a service. This one has the sport (harsh!) suspension.

Mike, the new B looks like a smaller R-Class right?
Kind of, but so does the old one.
I don't think so, the old one is more taller and round looking, having said that, I don't own one and you do so your observations are more qualified.

Agree! and the run-flat tires is bad, it cost about 4X than regular tire, also not repairable. Mercedes Canada will sell you insurance for RFT like the BMW !($1500.00 for 4 years up to 4 or 5 tires max.)
$1500 for 4 years! Ha.

You could buy a full three year ELWarranty for that price.... Which would be more useful.
This is why i live in the United States.. lol
