I know what the great majority of you will be spending your Monday Morning Email Catchup / Coffee Consumption time doing this morning. The Mercedes site has their online configurator for the CLA live! It has yet to allow all the super fun options to be added to the CLA of your dreams, like the 4matic, or the sploosh-wothy AMG trim, but there is enough to at least let you configure your first draft!

The top right hand counter Starts your CLA 250 coupe at $30,825, then as you click to your heart's contentment, you watch this counter bob and sink and soar like a hawk like the estimated tax return counter on your tax man's screen. 10 Colors are available including the ever classy Cirrus white, their $720 add on pretty pearly colors like Cosmos Black Metallic, and even the Matte Magno Polar Silver finish from their designo line that will set you back a cool $2500, be amazing, impossible to paint match, and even be incredibly hard to maintain.

You will get 3 wheel choices, ranging from the incredibly ugly 17" stock wheels, the optional $550 18" guys that look a bit better, or the better looking 18" AMG twin 5-spokes that become FREE once you add the obligatory Sport Package for $2000. I like free things! If you are still longing to spend a bit more money on MB wheels, you are in luck because all you have to do is scroll down to find 3 more 18" options ranging from $1800 to $3600, and another 17" option for $1640 in the Accessories section. And look at all the things that you get with the Sport Package! Sport Body Styling, Chrome Diamond-block Grille, the aforementioned 18's, and the super sexy, at least to me, Perforated front brakes with painted calipers! Who doesn't love painted calipers. I feel like I am 17 again and just pulled the wheels on my 91 Civic and Krylon'ed my caliper and rear drum! A little cheezy, but it is a must have option if you ever want to resell this thing.

The obligatory Pano roof will set you back $1480, and the "if I don't have those stupid LED headlights, I will regret it every time I drive anywhere" Bi-Xenon headlamps, and LED tails, will set you back $850. May the Lord forgive you if you don't check that box, because you will never forgive yourself.

You may be asking yourself, "How on Earth could I not have a spoiler, the choice of color keyed hub inserts, a license plate frame, and valve stem caps?" I need those! They are what makes the Mercedes Benz experience the Mercedes Benz experience. Even if I am the only one who will ever look at them! I know they are there, and that is all that matters!

Lets move inside folks! This is where I am going to implore you to choose a few things that will ensure that you will have less trouble selling this thing when you are all done with it and ready for the CL550, or the S-Class! First off, this is my opinion and that is it, but I worked at a used car dealership that dealt in high end cars. (Mercedes, Audi, Porsche, Lamborghini, Ferrari, and BMW) Please, please, please do not pick Beige or Brown interior! Please! They may tell you that it is rare and hard to get, and that you will have a rare car with the brown interior. There is a reason! No one likes the beige interior. If you want a Mercedes, you want dark interior. I know it gets hot in the summer, but that is why you tint the windows! Get dark interior! The $1500 Interior package is a small price to pay to ensure that you wont have to be disappointed when you go to resell. My recommendation, as if you asked for it, is to go with the Black Leather. Second is the Ash. But do me this solid, if you for some reason feel the need to get a lighter interior, because you don't want your bottom to be offended by hot leather, get either black carpet, or at the very lease black floor mats. You will thank me when you get into your buddy's car that has the beige carpet and mats, and see how incredibly dirty his carpets and mats are. Now it is time to click either the free Anthracite, Brushed Aluminum, or if you have to have wood, the $325 Black Ash Trim. Trust me, you will thank me later!

Those interior choices are going to mean that you have to have the Premium Package on the interior which will include: Dual-zone automatic climate control, Heated front seats, harman/kardon LOGIC7® sound system, SiriusXM Radio with 6-month All Access trial, Media Interface, Auto-dimming driver-side and inside rear view mirrors, Compass display in inside mirror, and the integrated Garage door opener. I want to add the $2370 Multimedia Package as well because I like having a good package. This adds: the obligatory Rear view camera, Enhanced Voice Control, 80GB hard-drive navigation and 7-inch display, Gracenote® Media Database, including album cover art, In-dash 6-disc DVD/CD player and SD card reader, 10GB Music Register, and the SiriusXM Traffic and Weather. Aside form that, I need to add the $599 Drive Kit for myPhone (Ouch!).

The next set of options are the Performance and Safety selections. Here, I dont need any of the optional bits because I look in my mirrors to change lanes, I look out the windshield to prevent collisions, I can park myself like a big boy, and I am an attentive driver. I will save a few dollars on my MSRP. Besides, the performance options I want are not selectable yet.

I just build my car for less than $50 Grand! This is the whole point of the CLA! You get the Mercedes you want for not the Mercedes Price that we are all used to! Mine came in at $48,644 plus, plus, plus I am sure, but at lease I feel good about that initial number! I got everything that I wanted including the 2.0L Direct injection 4-cyl, and the 7-speed DCT dual-clutch automatic, that is for sure! We shall see how much my bill ends up being with the AMG trim!!! Get Configurating! Chime in to tell us how much yours is!

To each his own, but I respectfully disagree with a lot of the OP's "must haves". I could never ever in a million years see myself spending $50K for a CLA. If I were spending that amount I'd be looking at a totally other brand and car. Mine comes in at a cool $32,500 and mine will drive 100% exactly the same as a fully optioned CLA. No different. No less. It will have the same exact nuts/bolts and fit/finish as everyone else' CLA. I'm not really concerned about optioning it out for the next buyer because option prices are rarely recouped during the resale of the car. Plus, with the way that I meticulously maintain my cars, I will most likely have no problem finding a buyer for it. That's if I decide to sell the car.

Hey now! I said from the beginning that I was going to be configuring the first draft!

The only options that I implored you guys to get was the dark interior. That is the only thing I said was a must as I saw many a super nice Mercedes car sit in our showroom with their tan interiors. The black interiors almost always sold first. Even pair of IDENTICAL Jaguar XKR's we had. The tan interiored XKR wrote his twin brother a goodbye card while he stayed on our showroom floor.

As for the parking assist, I mentioned that I can park myself just fine, thank you. I have been doing it for quite a few years actually. ;)

I am patiently waiting for the AMG to make it's appearance.

The man is right about a number of things. Sport package is a must have. CLA is not a good looking car from the side, hence all pictures were taken at the front quarter at 45 degrees. Sport package helps.
Bi-zonon LED daytime running lights a must or you will look stupid as you stare at your newly arrived car and ask yourself why it doesn't look like the hundreds, if not thousands of photos you have seen - because they all have them !
In sunny California, you can't give away a MB or BMW without sunroof. OK, you can give it away, may be you will get a Starbuck gift card back in return.
Black interior yes - even though I like the brown, especially the dash with MB tex and stitching.
Premium package is the rip off. On older cars, it gives you power seats with memories. That's standard on CLA. Home-link, well I have garage opener that works the same. compass on rear view mirror ( I am headed south southeast now dear.) dual zone climate control : I mostly drive alone and I have never understood the importance of giving each front passenger their choice. I need the inside cooled or heated, that's it. Louder stereo - NO. XM I like if it is free but it runs $15 a month. So off with the P-1 package. Of all the fancy stuff off the multimedia package, backup camera may be the one think I like. Rear view on the CLA is abysmal according to multiple road testers.
Blind spot assist will be useful. I currently own a 2012 C250 Coupe and I can't see around my shoulders because of the narrow windows and thick B-pillar. The CLA will be worse.
Remember, JoeyO above gets his CLA for 32500. After three years, he can trade in his car for 19000. The 49000 car will have trade in value of 22500.
C45: CLA45 with P-1 is 50575.

I agree with you Outsider, I think the Premium Package is a rip off too. There is absolutely nothing in there I find appealing to me (except maybe the HK upgrade). Unfortunately Mercedes forces you to get that in order to get Leather seats. So the Leather seats really end up costing $3,700. Now I want the Leather seats really bad, but not $3,700 bad.

I took the OP's post as a bit tongue-in-cheek. VERY few CLAs are going to be in the high-40s, and if you are in fact concerned about resale you generally want to keep your build as common as possible. I'd like to think NickJ was pointing out just how crazy one can go with options if you're not careful.

And of course, that's why they're called "options." Me personally, I happen to like the Jupiter Red and so I save the cost of metallic paint. I want the upgraded stereo, heated seats, and SiriusXM, so having to buy the premium package to get all these is just fine. And I want navigation as well, as expensive as it is. Add the sport package and I'm still shy of $40K, which is about what this car is worth to me. When you start getting to the mid-40s there are other options one has to consider.

In such an instance, I would give strong & serious consideration to a custom after-market leather interior conversion such as Katzkin, Classic Soft Trim, etc. It'll be $1k'ish/installed, depending on the level of options/customization (2-tone, perforated, piping, etc).

MB will get me w/ the Premium Package just for the automatic climate-control...

I have never even thought of keeping any car for more than three years, but I will have kept my BMW for over six when I get my CLA45. Partly because it is a GREAT car, and partly because I added every bell and whistle I though I might want. I plan to do the same with my Merc, and hope that it ages as well.

I priced mine out at 32550, before taxes. With taxes, minus tag and title, it will be another 2500(give or take 46 cents). I would love to price it at the 50,000 range, but my wife/accountant/boss lady have given me a budget and anything outside of that, I will have to add the bed option, cause that is where I will be sleeping most nights.
