The initial build date was supposed to be Aug with an Oct delivery date. I was told by my salesman that i am now looking at a Jan 14 build date. This is due to overwhelming demand i guess.

ARG..... Im thinking of pulling the plug on this one.

On a side note, he said that they are going to start charging above MSRP for any new orders.

Might be because you got the Night Package if you're from the US

Unlike BMW, Mercedes historically discourages their dealers against "mark-up" on new cars including placing ridiculous dealer add on items like $6000 rims & tire packages.
I have seen dealers circumvent the "policy" by registering some cars as "demo" and selling them as used cars with 150 miles which they can charge as much as they want.
One of the friendly BMW dealerships up in our area some years ago had a Z-8 with a list of $130,000 priced at $300,000. The first 2001 M3, an ugly non-metallic medium blue one,
I remember at that dealership had a $25,000 mark up on it. What they sold it for I don't know.
I am really hoping they are not going to play this game with the CLA, especially the CLA45 because I will not pay a dime over MSRP.

Are you kidding me? If this is the case with the CLA 250 as well then I will definitely wait till late spring 2014 and beyond to get one at a fair price (new or used).

So you can pre-order or order the night package but it will not be available on standard US models? Is this correct? The US configuration site doesn't list in as an option.

No it's just that theres a delay on the US Night Package until December/January. At least thats what the U.S order guide said. Might also be why its not included on the US configuration site

Same thing my dealer told me. At least I know I'm not alone, most others seemed to be promised fall build/deliveries.

The delays we're hearing about are very discouraging. I wonder how many will understandably lose patience and opt for a different car. I hope we get some better information from Mercedes as we get closer to September. The deeper they push into 2014 with US deliveries the more likely I see people seriously weighing the A3/S3 into their field of consideration...or just cutting bait now and going with any number of other cars out there.

Have you seen a Patagonia red type paint job before? I have a regular red 03 g35. Will it look like that?
Everything I have seen is based on photos online. So being early definitely carries a bit of risk.
The Patagonia Red is a $1750 option and that's pretty steep although I believe it will look gorgeous.
Google has dozens of pictures of it although the color clearly look different under different background and light settings.

Patagonia Red is a MB bright paint, similar to mother of pearl. Thats why the color looks so different in many photos.
Also you will not see Patagonia Red before februari 2014. Production of all Designo colors has been delayed to januari 2014.

Are you guys not thinking this might be a good thing, considering the resale of your ordered CLA? This means every CLA sold from than on is more expensive than what you paid for it, which I assume will result in a higher resale value on the second-hand market ?

Unfortunately, the market doesn't work that way. Most dealers aren't going to charge over MSRP for CLA45s and anyone who pays it is only lining their dealer's pockets; not somehow improving resale. In fact, even those who pay MSRP will eventually find that they paid more than the average after the car has been on the market for a little while. When I bought my S60R (I ordered an '05 in late '04) they were all selling at or barely below MSRP. There were no real discounts. A few months later the '05s were selling at normal discount levels.
