Hi,

As I am new to the whole order procedure with mercedes, can someone please explain the steps from the time someone orders to delivery?

Also I have been reading about colours green, yellow and red... are these order indicators? Are they common for all countries?

The local MB dealership within your area should be able to assist you.

First, you'll need to determine the specifics in terms of the options and color that you want your vehicle to possess. Once you have done that, your dealership should be able to order the vehicle thru the Starnet system that will push your order to the MB factory. Once your order has been accepted by the factory, they will issue a production order number. This number should provide you with the details inclusive to when your vehicle will be built.

Once your vehicle has been built, the VIN will be added to your order within Starnet. From there your vehicle will be assigned to a ship that will deliver your car to the closest port that coincides with your dealership. From there the car is loaded on a commercial vehicle and transported to the dealership for delivery.

I think it is call the StarNet system for MB. It's been around a number of years.
Each dealer gets an allotment of cars on the StarNet System. Say 20 CLA250. The factory assigns each a PO number and a build date ( say September 2013.) And they further divide the build month into 10 day thirds which they call "decades." So if the car is to be built the second 10 day of September, it will show on the StarNet as 13/09/2D ( 2013, September, 2nd decade.)
When that car is in GREEN, you can change the color and equipment at will. Then when it gets close to the build date, the car changes to YELLOW on the StarNet system. You can still change how you want the car built but the yellow tells you time is running out to make changes. Then the car turns RED and however the car is configured at the time is how the car will be built.
The system shows the color and equipment on each car using the codes - like the AMG performance steering wheel is 281.
I have no idea how they do it in other countries. I am guessing there is a good chance they use the same setup.

If you're starting from scratch, I'd start with getting the CLA "order guide". It shows you all the possible color combinations and packages / accessories. It has a lot of information contained within it. If you've configured a car before it will be a piece of cake. Otherwise it might be confusing and you should review the order guide with your salesperson at the dealership.

As far as the green, yellow, red order status... My understanding is consistent with what was mentioned previously.
