We live way out in the woods and I've had a mouse problem in all our cars for years. The winters are pretty cold around here (down to -39 degrees F) so the the little monsters are always looking for a warm sheltered place. They like to make their home on the batteries and in the AC/heater vents. I've spent over $400.00 in one instance getting stored acorns out of the fan unit in the CLA and several days trying to get rid of mouse urine smells out of our cars. The service guys even devised a metal screen mesh barrier behind my cabin air filter to keep them out of the duct work. They were content to camp out around the battery and on the fresh air intake near it.

I've had many suggestions with the best intentions that simply didn't work. I've had folks tell me to tie clothes dryer fabric softener sheets under the hood where they nest. Didn't work! They used them as nesting material and it probably gave their fur a nice soft sheen. Someone told me they hated the smell of Irish Spring Soap. Didn't work! They actually ate the stuff. I set traps around the cars. I did catch several but it didn't deter them. I sprayed coyote urine all around carport. Nothing! The little creatures are relentless.

This past fall, at the end of my rope I stumbled upon an Item I thought was just another useless attempt at taking money from desperate people. I mentioned it to the service manager at the MB dealer during their second swing at cleaning out my acorn collection and he said he had a few customers that had success with them.

I bought this item:

I mounted it under my hood and it actually works! I bought one for each of my vehicles and my mouse problem has miraculously disappeared. I'm sorry if I sound like an infomercial but it's the first thing in 10 years that solved my problem.

Hey @Northern Al

That gadget works for typical critters I presume
I got 2 of them to rotate devices even (just in case)

But for weeks this one terrorist of a thing kept at it despite the changing ultrasonic and light strobe patterns, peppermint oil, etc

Finally had to make 2 “sticky hotels” with peanut butter bait ... it got free a few times and thrashed the box ... it finally got stuck and it was H U G E

Alien rat man !

It could have really been an alien rat - particularly if you're a fan of the History Channel. There's an entire cable series called Ancient Astronauts. He may be a descendant of a stow-away that arrived here on one of their visits?? Wait, I guess I shouldn't have assumed it was a he. Especially, considering Congress wants to do away with all things gender specific?? Anyway, "IT" may have also have been blind (sorry, non-sighted) & deaf (oops! hearing impaired) which is why the Lorraffe thingy didn't work. These Alien Rats are probably endowed with some sort of telepathic internal radar instead. I'm glad you finally got him. You just may have saved all of mankind from his terrifying offspring eating CLA and possibly M1 Abrams critical wiring.;)

Sorry!! I spend way too much time watching cable!

Was he wearing a little KN95 mousey face mask or "Fire Fauci" tattoo when you caught him?

I have to apologize again. I'm still trying to conform with this new P/C thing. I shouldn't have said he was an Alien Rat, I believe the proper term should have been "Undocumented Extraterrestrial Rodent".

Between the device food stickypads critterspray etc that “UER” cost me like $40

Hello! I also have a simple and affordable tip to eliminate rodents in general. You just need to place a box with small holes, filled with mothballs to keep them away, or with an anti-rodent product to get rid of them permanently, in the engine compartment of your vehicle. I've been using this method for years and I no longer have any nibbling issues. But your tip also seems very effective to me, I'm going to give it a try as well.;)
