Spoke today with a representative of local MB dealer to discuss possible incentives/discounts for a group buy. The Rep commented he is hearing talk within MB centered on early CLA models delivered to dealers NOT having the Sports Package. Supposedly, the issue is related to the overwhelming appeal of the CLA, with Sports Pkg., in Europe and this is impacting production with Sports Pkg.

For those of us that weren't expecting to purchase the Sports Pkg., this can be a blessing because the appeal of the Sports Pkg. may negatively impact initial sales of those models in showrooms without it. Thus, to move the early models without the Pkg., dealers may be motivated to SELL, SELL, SELL!

WHAT ARE YOU HEARING?

I haven't heard anything like that from my dealer. I pre-ordered back in late April so I believe there shouldn't be any issues. If anything, the rep at the dealer will contact me if any issues surface.

If this is the case, I will wait to purchase the car until the sports package is available.

If this is true. Mercedes is shooting themself in the ass. Clearly they should've known people were gonna go for the sports package. Also if they do this. They would have all the models non sports/edition 1 with sports package. I think those edition 1's will fly off the shelves then. Maybe not such a bad idea after all.

Do remember the folks here posting are car nuts. Who would otherwise waste so much time talking about one car.
And there are no more than 50-75 of us.
The majority of people buying the CLA will not be car nuts. Most don't even know there is a sport package.
I am guessing three quarters of CLA sold in the US will NOT have the sport package.
If you poll 1000 random potential buyers on the street and ask them if they would choose the sport package or the premium package
for about the same price. I would bet the majority would go for the premium package which is Mercedes' most popular option
package. Many would just go for the base car for $30825.

In Russia MB mailed all dealers to cut down all quotas for any cla model. July/August production CLAs are the last ones in 2013.
They say it is done to satisfy the US demand. I managed to order the last CLA (45) at my local dealer. But I won't get a pano roof, for example, because of a shortage :(

I put down my deposit on the CLA last weekend and got an email from my sales rep today saying that there are some production delays on the sport package. I should more details tomorrow. Real bummer, but I am quite unwilling to sacrifice the sport package...it makes an already good looking car that much better, in my opinion.

Well, I sent an inquiry to MB USA to determine if there is in fact a production short fall for the sports package. The rep advised me that there is no production shortfall for the sports package and that orders should arrive promptly as appropriate.

I guess this bears some truth as it came directly from MB USA...

Unforgently in my case my dealer told the truth and MB was more reserved with there answer.
But I can guarantee you that Mercedes Kescemet is definetly having delivery problems for European customers.
This concers the pano roof and the sport package (including the rims, saw dutch dealers offer CLA's with AMG/sport package with different brand rims).

But maybe these problems are because of the mass transports to the US in July / September.

Here's a link to one of these CLA with differert brand rims

CLA's have been in production since July. We should see some ones finished late August if they are on the normal 5-6 week cycle. I expected to get my car in Sept. With the sports package and everything else on the car my delivery date got pushed back to Oct/Nov. There is very much a shortage of sports packages available.

On an odd note my CLA will cost the same as my loaded C Class.
