So i removed my muffler already and everything is fine, but the other day i put on new dual tips and the CEL popped up. I put the stock tips back on and the CEL went away, so i was wondering if i took out the resonator would it pop up again or will i be fine and why did it come up when i put new tips on.

How are the tips mounted?
Any harnesses nearby?

I used a clamp to mount the tips and as soon as i started the car the CEL came on

So if you repeated this clamp on clamp off routine 3x you would get 3 cel on/off cycles?

Some info is missing ...

Yeah so first i straight piped the car and took out the muffler and put the original tips on and everything was fine, then i bought new dual tips and put them on and as soon as i started the car the CEL came on. I then took off the new tips and put the original ones back on and the CEL went away.

If the cel pops there should be a corresponding obd2 error code
get a cheapy (or good!) obd2 reader and log it
this is a very odd case
unless you are mangling harnesses or something not sure why a change in cantilevered mass would pop the error
Whats the mass difference?
Any flow restriction changes? Like buffered or resonated?

Quite a few have done outlet mods no issues
Need that obd2 error code else this is a circular pursuit
