Im going with the guy that owns and drives both:smile: i drove both the same day, and would agree that the C out performed the cla in the areas Northern Al mentions, but CLA has it in the looks dept...May not say blows it away, but easily out performs....and yes... im sure the 4matic has a lot to do with that....Did you drive a 2014 C? Interior and cornering are not even close.. The 45 will be a beast, can not wait to drive it! The c63 amg was prob the best test drive ive ever had in my life, but mileage blows bad...

The CLA and C300 4 matic acceleration times are very close. cornering power? .92G CLA .87G C300 4MATIC Sport.

From Road & Track:
The chassis reacts to steering inputs immediately, the body stays flat, and tires grip quite well. We bet the CLA would shock more than a couple of folks at an autocross competition.

Blows it away? no. and the CLA does it with far greater fuel efficency than the C300

I've driven both, CLA several times, the 300 4matic Sport has a more secure feeling on the limit, but that doesn't necessarily mean it's a better handling car. I was very impressed by the CLA steering feel, better than the MK VI GOLF (i have several thousand miles in two) which is the gold standard for front drivers. It's all driver preference and opinion.

Agreed, would really need to compare 4matics of both for apples to apples

I'll take mine over the new C class anyday. when they unveiled the new C, I realized just how much the CLA was a preview of the future of MB. the way the screen mounted to the dash for example. it's about to become alot more routine for MB cars. that should silence the 'cheap' comments some professional reviewers made when they first drove the CLA this spring.

When I saw the preview info of the 2015 C class, it seriously threw a wrench in my plans to buy a CLA. I like its looks (though not quite as much as the CLA). The upcoming C class is going to include a lot of good tech that's coming down from the current S class, including the COMAND controller and some of the safety stuff. I was thinking of holding off the CLA purchase and just driving the other new car we'll be buying soon (a more practical, under $28K hatchback from Hyundai or Mazda, probably) until the 2015 C's shipped. But the reports that the first 2015 C class models to ship in late 2014 will be the 4MATIC models, with the RWD versions waiting until calendar year 2015, made me realize that I didn't want to wait a year and a half until I got into a nicer luxury car. Here in California, we don't need 4MATIC, and it would just be an unneeded $3K penalty. So I'm going ahead with the CLA now. At "worst", I can hold onto it for 2-3 years, then buy the C-class model I really want.

Totally agreed, tnegrino. I did the test drive on CLA again yesterday, as I wanted to make sure my decision on CLA is right. I asked the sales about 2015 C Class, same answer on delivery date, ie early 2015. I have been waiting for my CLA for 6 months and another 6 months to go before delivery, I do not want to wait for another 1+ years for C Class. I have decided to stick to my order for CLA and see how it goes in a year or 2.

Don't get me wrong, I do like my CLA250 a lot and I'll wait until the 2015 C class is in the showrooms and I can test drive one before considering a change.

I can't speak on the AMG Series as I haven't driven one.

F.Y.I: There's a pretty accurate review on the CLA250 on the Consumer Reports site. I agree with a lot of what was said but, there are also a few things I don't agree wit as well.

I've ordered CLA 180 AMG back at the start of Feb with a promised date being May 15th. Today I've got a call from the dealer saying it is being pushed back further towards the end of May. Ok - I guess I'll have to wait... what choice do I have!
But thing is - waiting is good time for doubts to set in... and today after I've seen the new C class I am starting to reconsider getting CLA!

You know why? Purely because for not that much more you get much powerful engine (122 vs. 180 HP), lots more of standard equipment included than CLA (Garmin navigation, bigger 7 or 8 inch screen, etc. etc.), Airmatic adjustable suspension and - possibly - a better hi-fi system (Burmester VS. Harmann).

Looks-wise - yes, CLA still looks better. Though I wouldn't mind combining front of CLA with back of C-class... that would look awesome!

I had a C63, great car! Biggest difference is the engine. I have to say the CLA profile is still hotter, though similar. C class will have way more head room in back, but smaller trunk space. I think the idea of the engine is the coolest between the CLA45 and C63. The 4 banger is amazing, the V8 sounds WAY better, both cool!!!

Hows interior quality on c class vs the cla?

I know the 2015 will be much nicer but the current 2014, is it about the same or better than cla?

The CLA 250 is much sportier and in my opinion, much more appealing than the present C Class interior. Esthetically, it's the winner. The seats also envelope you, they're more intimate and have that secure sports car feel. You feel like part of the car and it's part of you.

The C Class interior is roomier and more comfortable especially on really long rides. It's easier to get into and out of than the CLA. More luxurious - but, it does look more like your grandpa's car interior in comparison.

I'm not yet sure which operator screen I like better. The C Class is less "in-your-face" than the one in the CLA 250 and it looks like they intended to put it there. The CLA screen looks like an after-thought. Kinda' like just before the design deadline somebody said " Hey, we forgot to put in the operator screen, I guess it's 'gotta go somewhere in the front"! On the other hand it is easier to see on bright sunny days.

I do prefer the shift on the console in the C Class. In my opinion that's where it really belongs in the sporty CLA. Mercedes got that one bass-ackwards as, steering column shifts were the norm a couple of generations ago.

Also, there's a lot less road noise in the C Class interior and it doesn't have that stupid door panel gap you get with the CLA.

You just have to decide whether you prefer the the sports car or the "Luxo" feel. You can't really go wrong with either.

Of course you could get one of each and switch between them whenever the mood strikes -or - wait until September and see what the new style C Class brings.

I really like them both , they both have lots of pluses and each has a few minuses.

Good luck!

When I asked by dealer about possibly looking at the new C-Class instead of the CLA45 on order he laughed.
He said while the C was a fantastic vehicle, the CLA45 was on a different level in terms of performance, street appeal and resale in the future.
I'm sticking with beast mode...

I checked out the W205 C Class a few weeks ago and the rear seat headroom is as bad as it is in the CLA, at least in cars with the sunroof. It was a massive disappointment for me.
