I bought a 2024 CLA 250 AMG line in March of this year. The car had 12,000 miles on it. It had never been titled and it was a CPO. A week after taking the car home the check engine light came on. I took it to the dealer. They cleared the light and gave the car back. Three days later the check engine light came back on. I had to go back to the dealer and they replaced something to do with the hybrid battery charging system. Last week the check engine light comes on again right after I had the B service done at the dealership. I took the car back to Mercedes. They cleared the code. Said it was some sort of communication error and gave me the car back. Now today the check engine light comes on again and I gotta go back to the dealer to have them properly fix whatever the issue is. Is this normal procedure for Mercedes to clear codes and wait for them to come back a second time? And is this normal for a Mercedes to constantly throw a check engine light? All of my previous cars in the last 10 years have been Lexus so I’m not used to this happening at all.

No, this is not normal procedure and it's not acceptable for a car under warranty, especially a CPO. They should be fixing the root cause, not just clearing codes.

This is also not typical Mercedes reliability. You've just been unlucky with a problematic car. Be firm with the dealer. Demand a proper, permanent fix this time. Since it's a recurring issue, you can also ask Mercedes Corporate to get involved.

The first check engine light they took the car in checked everything couldn’t find anything wrong so Mercedes told them to clear the code and test drive which they did and it didn’t come back. Once I got the car back, the light came on a couple days later and I took it back and they replaced the module that controls the DC to DC converter. This most recent time the check engine light came on for a communication error. Mercedes told him to check everything and they couldn’t find anything physically wrong so they were told to clear the code and test drive the car which they did and it didn’t come back. We got the car back and two days later the check engine light came back on, so I returned to the dealer. I just got a call and they said they opened a case with Mercedes and Mercedes had them update two module software and to drive test the car for 20 miles if the check engine light doesn’t come back on they were told to give the car back to me
