jmc you were right :)
Entered the vin and it states the transmission is 724003.
Can you assist with anymore info?
Thanks again
Actually yes ... run a search and you will find several posts on this gearbox oil change thing
Lots of info! Just one comment about the process -- keep things clean clean clean

Oh ... that

Well the synopsis:
  • break dip stick cap (will need new)
  • drain (and note volume)
< keep things clean from here >
  • yank off the gearbox cover
  • replace filter
  • same for oil cooler
  • new cover gasket (aluminum frame w/seal)
  • new cooler filter/seals
  • refill (thru paint filter) with similar volume a little less
  • add antifoam additive (its a 45)
  • start and warm gearbox to 40c
  • check level w/ benz dipstick head (amazon)
  • check level 3x to be sure of reading
  • slowly add to 40c marking
  • optional repeat at 70c
  • use new dipstick cap and tag with white (i think?) paint dot to note antifoam added

Think i posted the dipstick markings a while back

Nice thing is 45 has gearbox temp in cluster

Bit of a headache as temp point and marker reading tolerances are tight (you know the germans)

Contamination can screw up the internal channels etc so lint free cloths, clean work pan for parts, bla bla bla

aint for the faint of heart but doable with patience
tough part is getting running level correct at either (or both) temp points
there is (barely) enough room to fashion a thermocouple connection inside the hollow dipstick (spring) body and embed the wires into the polymer reticle tip
that will give real time temp data and since its less than 120c most mini t/c bead heads will do fine (those wires are only like 250um and the weld bead can be trimmed down to fit)

benz oem which is shell dct-m1 per bevo 236.21
i suppose one could use something "similar" and take a chance
i had looooooonnnnggg spats with fuchs and pentosin folks ... even they say their stuff is similar but for some reason benz has not added them to bevo and get the "use at your own risk" line ... geee
