Sure wish Mercedes was more forthcoming in their details on the optional sport package. Lots of different opinions. I did find this in the Mercedes 2014 CLA Brochure ( ( http://www.mbusa.com/vcm/MB/DigitalAssets/pdfmb/brochures/2014_CLA.pdf ):

"Fully independent suspension with front struts and a multilink rear design teams with STEER CONTROL, an innovation of the electromechanical power steering. In corners and other maneuvers, subtle impulses of the steering wheel offer intuitive prompts, to help the driver achieve optimum handling. The CLA 250 Sport Package includes an even sharper sport suspension."

What does this mean, if anything?

For what it's worth, I was just looking at my sticker and it lists "Sport suspension" under the Sport package options.
Interesting, so I also just pulled out my order sheet from the computer system. Under the heading of item code 321 it says -
321 Sport Package: Sport Suspension, 18-
772 : AMG Sportline
794 : AMG Wheels - 5 spoke
951 : Sport Appearance Package

Well, it does say Sport Suspension, but that goes against previous written materials. Very confusing!

So I also wonder if either code 772 or 951 covers the flat-bottomed steering wheel some folks are discussing. Or, maybe one covers the special front brake calipers. (??)

So I went for a test drive in 2 different CLA 250's, see pictures below,
and as far as I know there was no difference in suspension.

Call me crazy but the CLA with Sport package felt much better...

My guess is that the information in the brochure is a carryover from what was created for other geographies since the base cars in many places outside of the US don't get the sport suspension as standard. For whatever reason, MBUSA opted to equip all of the US bound cars with the sport suspension. From what I understand, however, the AMG gets a different suspension set-up.

Remember, version 1 of the brochure also referred to the CLA as a RWD car. Wishful thinking. Old habits die hard I suppose. Even the owners manual talks about ILS (intelligent lighting system) which isn't available here.

Wouldn't it be nice if MB had a real Technical Information Site where we poor stupid worthless buyers could get accurate answers? I'm not upset that the sales people can't give us actual information because they appear not have access to it either.
